Yellow Cab Driver was slashes in the face in Williamsburg

Three young men were in police custody after a vicious and brutal attack against a friendly taxicab driver in the Williamsburg neighborhood.

Around 3:30am, cabbie Mustafa Kadro, 52, picked up the three men and agreed to give the men a free ride after they said they wouldn’t be able to afford the fare.

“Something about them looked like they were up to no good, but I picked them up anyway,” Kadro told the Post.  “It was cold and it was only eight blocks, so I gave them a free ride.  It was just a gesture.  I thought why would they hurt someone who is good?”

The driver was dropping off the suspects at the corner of North 5th Street and Wythe Avenue, with one of them thanking him before the passenger in the middle backseat reached in the front seat and slashed him on his forehead.

It is unknown what type of weapon was used.  Kadro was injured and had a 4-inch long cut on his forehead, but declined medical attention at the scene.

The men were identified by police as Mario Reyes, 20, Samuel Martinez, 21, and Jose Osoria, 17.

“I’m actually shocked because I didn’t think that could happen around here,” said Williamsburg resident Daphnee Louissaint.

Kadro has been driving a taxicab for seven years and said that he has never been robbed or roughed up doing his job.  He felt lucky that the slashing on his forehead isn’t worse than what it could have been.

NYPD said about 10 minutes after the attack, the three suspects mugged a 25-year old man on South 2nd Street while putting him in a chokehold and stole his cell phone.  The victim was not injured.

Police statistics show there has been a 22.1 percent increase in slashings or stabbings this year compared to last year.

“I am so glad the police acted quickly and arrested them,” said Kadro.  “I hope they stay in jail for a long time so they can’t hurt anyone again.”

Close your partition seal it never ever open it.get used to it.kids are kids.Iam used to closing the partition and feels like I work in haven .you don’t need opening the partition because passengers can see you and talk to you and the good news is they can’t touch you.humans are predators they kill so be careful out there.don’t pickup fourth passenger if you don’t want to, only if it’s safe to do so.

If someone crazy, they find the way to hurt. There are all kinds of cases. However, drivers need to know more about riders’ reactions and behave. Communicate with your passengers. Keep doors locked, and unlock when safe to let them in. Criminals like to jump into a cab, fast and unexpectedly at unsafe places! Let talk about more and share what need to be done to make taxi driving safer for every taxi driver. I believe security cameras should be every NYC cab!

Cameras never saved anyone’s life .
If you couldn’t safe your own life nobody else would.
Partition should be locked all the time ,and phone ready for emergency calls.
Front doors also must be locked all the time .
TLC must stop accepting partitions with window.
It must fully completely one unit .
A sun roof window must be added for DRIVER side .
Microphone should be introduced for the passengers and drivers.
Partitions help protect drivers from viruses and violent.
TLC must add strong light inside the cab .
When you turn your meter off the light must be on and stronger.
Ventilation must be added to the partition ,at least 4 ventilation small sizes.
TLC must add touch screen for passenger to enter their exact address ,and the display appears at the driver side.
TLC must introduce an electronic system that detect which light
is burned out or which light bulb is out .
It should be visible for the driver to see, sometimes brake light or head light goes off ,drivers can’t notice it and it’s easy to do it.

For those like you, who prefer fully partitioned cabs, there is a Nissan NV200 wheelchair accessible taxi to drive. Uber, limo and green cab drivers and many experienced yellow cabdrivers prefer unpartitioned, hybrid (luxurious) cars to drive. Passengers feel more comfortable in these car services. I noticed over the years, since nearly everyone uses credit card’s only few cabdriver drives with fully closed partition anyway. No cash to steal from the driver, and however hitch-riders (not-paying) are on the rise, and that’s why we need a camera in cabs. I agree with Weekly driver.

partitioned sucks, it makes all your legs stiff and tierd. anytime I drive a partitioned taxi, the next day I can’t go to work.

Partitions are obsolete and unnecessary. Most fares use cards.

Have you driven the wheel chair accessible cab???
How many calls do you get a week???
How does the gps accessibility works???
How easy is it to deal with clients?
The reason I am asking is that some drivers wouldn’t drive them!!!
    Thanks

We really need a fully equipped monitoring unit in cabs.recording devices and cameras.the reason is that some people hate cabbies for no reason ,I had a woman in my cab going downtown as I tried to turn the ventilation on to make her feell comfortable, she just discharged on me claiming she works for Mayor Delblasio and she will talk to them to suspend my license saying that I played with the phone .she stated that I don’t deserve to be next to the people.I told her mis, I have been driving for 16 years and never had any problem .she said Iam getting out she paid in cash and insisted on receipt and then slammed the door and left.really!!! Believe me ,need to write a book how people go against themselves.what they think taxi driver is??we are more educated more that amyone else here,we have high degrees and we have been in so many institutions.they think driver is just god of anger.you wrong people ,you really are slaves of god.what would this passenger say in year 3000 ,she will be gone ,so am I.people!!! Be happy we are here not for money or fighting time.time is not yours if you don’t respect it, it flies.traffic makes us,drivers, lose more money and time.so if your boss wants to fire you after you missed your time is because you ve been doing it everyday.Boss is not stupid.new york shouldn’t be a place of anger but a place of self learning.

    To NightRive.
Happiness is dead in America,as “Donald. Trump” said:
‘American dream is dead and boring’.
I believe ,americans must take back their own country by stopping all sort of immigration of illegals and legals because the midle class are working harder and more hours without saving a penny.320 million citizens is enough for the country to reach its goals. business take advantage of immigration making it harder for real americans to make a living. The illegals work harder than anyone else and they get no protection or benefits ,they are really suffering ,So if you love illegals why don’t they give them legal status .they wont provide them with legal status because they love their blood .Being illegal is a torcher and is indeed a human right violation.those who support illegals must come out with the truth and support them by giving them full access to goverment aid and health care and citisenship status..
