A 34-year-old New York City taxi driver who was jailed for nine months after a police officer mistakenly identified him as a drug suspect has received a $1.5 million settlement from the city.
The settlement was made Tuesday in Bronx Supreme Civil Court.
Jesus Diaz Delossantos was arrested and jailed in 2002 on charges of selling 100 Ecstasy tablets to an undercover police officer.
Delossantos’ lawyer Roy Hiller later proved the officer wasn’t working the day he claimed Delossantos sold him the tablets.
The lawyer also proved his client, a native of Dominican Republic, didn’t fit the suspect’s description.
Charges were dropped against Delossantos in 2004.
City lawyer Gia DiCola declined to comment.
